Since the start of Maja’s hunger strike, they have lost ~7kg. Since a
few days the loss of weight has slowed down.
Maja’s belly became very thin and their eyes are sunken.
Despite the hot temperatures in Budapest, Maja is freezing, they need
to wear a pullover.
After all, Maja feels weak and exhausted, loosing the capability to
focus.
These effects are usual and expectable at the current phase of hunger
strike.
After almost 2 weeks of hunger strike, the prison’s authorities seem to
react.
On Sunday, 15.06., Maja was allowed to be 1h in the yard with 4 other
prisoners – for the first time in 1 year of imprisonment in Budapest. On
the next day, Maja was again in the yard with those same 4 prisoners.
Suddenly, the prison’s authorities start to comply with Maja’s demands:
visits on the weekend should be allowed, they could receive a TV.
Additionally, the authorities asked for proposals for a reintegration
program.
We don’t know yet what this is supposed to mean.
These steps show that Maja could probably achieve the improvements they
are fighting for.
This can be cautiously considered a success of Maja’s struggles and the
solidarity from outside the walls.
Still, there hasn’t been any talk between the prison’s authorities and
Maja or Maja’s lawyer, neither a written assurance that these
improvements will stay.
And Maja’s demands for ending their hunger strike has not been met.
From the beginning of the hunger strike, Maja clearly demanded to be
sent back to Germany.
At the 16.06.2025, In the morning, the german consular visited Maja, to
hear their demands for ending the hunger strike.
It’s unclear yet if the court will continue the 18th & 20th of June and
if Maja will be brought in front of the judge, despite the hunger
strike.
During the trial’s date on 12th of June, the judge and the prosecutor
denied the fact of Maja being in hunger strike and tried to continue the
trial as usual.
After 4 hours, the trial had to be interrupted, on account of Maja’s
exhaustion.
Until now, judge and prosecutor didn’t step back from it.
Germany’s government didn’t react publicly to the hunger strike until
now.
The ministry of exterior stated towards TAZ, a leftist newspaper, that
the Hungarian authorities can decide whether Maja is returned to
Germany, denying their responsibility.
It seems like the prison have reacted to Maja’s hunger strike with some
improvements, while the judge and prosecutor deny it and Germany doesn’t
show any attempt to bring them back.
Maja is determined to continue the hunger strike and fight to be
returned to Germany.
It’s on us to support their hunger strike and to pressure the german and
hungarian authorities.
Join the international days of action, which start the 20th of June!

Solidarity with Maja – statement about the hunger strike from some,
accused in the Antifa-Ost trials
Hello Maja!
As persons, accused in the Antifa-Ost trials, which by now includes the
accusations of confrontation with Nazis in Budapest, we want to send you
solidarity on this way.
Since their extradition from Germany to Hungary, Maja is already one
year in pre-trial prison in Hungary.
On 05.06.2025, they started an unlimited hunger strike.
This step is Maja’s last resource to fight against the psychological
torture of solitary confinement and to demand to be sent back to
Germany.
Since almost one year, the Hungarian justice is trying to break and
humilate them, both in the courtroom and with harsh conditions of
imprisonment.
This trial in Budapest is serving as a political staging for the
authoritarian government, against Antifascism in general and in Maja’s
case especially against other realities of life.
But not only the Hungarian authorities are responsible for Maja’s
situation but as well the German authorities, who extradited Maja.
The national prosecutor, the court in Berlin and the federal police of
Saxony, who committed this illegal extradition are responsible too.
Zaid, who is as well accused in the Budapest-trials is the only one
still threatened to be extradited to Hungary.
It is obvious that he would be facing the same situation there, if not
worse.
The fact that the German national prosecutor selected Zaid shows that
there is no interest to avoid the cruelty that Maja is facing.
Instead it’s about setting an example and openly using a racist special
treatment against Zaid.
Many of us are imprisoned in Germany.
As most prisoners, we face difficulties in there or witness how the
guards harass the inmates.
But none of this is comparable to what Maja and other prisoners are
going through.
Dear Maja, the fact that you still have the strength to fight for
yourself and for many others, deserves the biggest respect.
We want to say it directly: we stand with you and by your side.
Normally, we don’t like verbal statements of solidarity. Solidarity is a
attitude, shown by actions, not something to explain with words.
But since our options are limited by the fact that most of us are in
prison, we chose this way anyway.
Even through we are separated by kilometers and many walls, we are with
you in our thoughts.
Hopefully, this gives you strength and lets you smile for a moment.
We are fighting with you and for you, for what they attack you for.
The courage to fight for a free society, despite all.
We stand together!
No matter if underground, in prison or in legality.
Solidarity with Maja, Zaid and all political prisoners!
